Jong-Gou Lee
I wouldn’t like to call the works of Jong-Gou Lee pictures, I would like to call them pictures. Though we use the words picture and painting synonymously, however, the clear character of Lees works is stamped so much by the characteristics of the paintbrush, that the word picture appears to me a little bit weakly or pale and inexpressively compared with the word painting.
These are rather dark, almost sombre paintings whose heavy Impasto (thick colour application) comes as strongly to effectiveness, as the figurativeness, which is resulting from the Impasto: Heads on the one hand and, on the other hand, naked bodies, quite exclusively female ones.
This regional while he it marks the colour scraps which flit about above the canvas which nowhere form on the edge of linear contours entlangtasten, but concentrations which turn out body sceneries and the artist in a row of cases in the title emphasises: "Scenery figure". Earthy brown, bluish like paled skies, olive Green like vegetation and all that in like from wind or ssogar storm fluctuating movement.
